Design HMI LLC, ATRAUSA Inc and FZB Technologies working together with lighting and electronic innovators like Schott Glass, Microchip and others have completed production intent design for next generation retractable running board step lighting. The lighting is designed to come on when step ladder is extended. It goes off when door is closed, and step ladder is retracted.
Current design is powered by the vehicle with LIN interface.
Design HMi and ATRAUSA have also developed a wireless solution with battery and sensors – battery life assumed as 5 years.
Looking to work with OE or supplier / manufacture of retractable step ladder to integrate the waterproof lighting solution. Design requires minimal to no change to the stepladder and target cost is assumed at < $30 based on volumes.
Designing water resistant homogenous lighting across running boards – both retractable and fixed with direct cost < $20 for each side. For wireless with sensor assume $28 for each side
One of the challenges is in creating a homogenous lighting across running boards – both retractable and fixed. These are for large running boards that run across the front to rear of Luxury and standard SUV’s.
SUV’s are many times used to dock towed boat directly into the water which means lighting must be fully waterproof. In addition, it must survive the harsh environment of vehicle exteriors during winter months.
FZB Technologies and Design HMI LLC using Schott Glass Side Emitting Fiber Optics Technology has developed a solution that is robust and designed for reliability.
Light guides made of glass fibers in conjunction with modern LED light sources are packaged in a sealed environment. Schott glass fibers are composed of natural material and as they are flexible are easily integrated into small installation spaces.
The design package other than Schott Fiber Optics includes a light emitter, housing and controls and is designed for quick installation under the rocker panel.
