Current designs for lighted scuff plate are generic in design as they light up the car model name and / or monogram when you open the door. The lighting is controlled by the security module or the body control module which provides power to the light guide once door is opened.
The concept makes it harder to integrate changes in vehicle electrical architecture need to be accommodated and addition IO’s to the module must be provided.
Another simpler method may be ON / OFF switch integrated in the door ajar or standalone switch functions but it still needs wiring changes coupled with other.
The design concept here is to make the lighted sill plate wireless so it can be interchanged with standard to lighted with no system changes or interface needed.
Also, to provide even lighting, improved quality and reduce complexity target would be to eliminate custom design light guide and use fiber optics for lighting. The two ideal choices of that are Schott Glass with their side emitting fiber optics and Lumitex with their Clad fiber.
Proximity detect circuits would be used to light up the monogram or name when door is opened.
Power would be through two-coin cell batteries designed for life of 4 years – which is more than life of battery in most Keyfob today. Car owners are knowledgeable about battery life taking KEYFOB, TPMS and other in car application that are battery driven.
Target is to have the CLASS A surface be stainless steel through which the illuminated Logo / Name can shine through when lit.
Depth of the sill plate assembly to be same as non-backlit version to ensure there are no fit and finish concerns.
Design HMI LLC and Chongqing Rebo Lighting & Electronics Co., Ltd. Are working to complete design within next two months to present to OE’s and Aftermarket Integrators. For more information please contact designhmi@gmail.com.
Most of the current concepts are imbedded in the system and thus requires connectivity with automotive architecture including Power and Ground and system data when door in opened.
The advantages of the Wireless Sill Plate designed by Chongqing Rebo Lighting & Electronics Company Limited.
- Wireless design.
- Requires no system interface.
- Light comes on due to proximity detect of door opening.
- Cost effective.
- Can be designed to suit fleet / other customer requirements.
- Cost effective solution for both aftermarket and OE solution.
CQREBO has over the last year developed a design solution that meets key feature requirements and easy to install. CQREBO solution is a snap fit solution which gives the OE or vehicle owner the choice of choosing lighted or standard non-lit version.
In addition, the design will be high end with metallic finish that demonstrates high quality lighted sill.
