Parylene is the trade name for a variety of chemical vapor deposited poly (p-xylylene) polymers used as moisture and dielectric barriers. Applied through a deposition process, yielding completely conformal coatings with a pinhole free uniform thickness.

It is chemically and biologically inert and stable, and makes excellent barrier material. Also most organic coatings are readily penetrated by water molecules, with the exception of Parylene. Also has excellent electrical properties: low dielectric constant and loss with good high-frequency properties; good dielectric strength; and high bulk and surface resistance.

Widely considered as the ultimate conformal coating for the protection of devices, components and surfaces and major benefit of Parylene is its ultra-thin nature, resulting from a vapor deposition process. The coating ensures superior barrier properties, and with micron-level thickness that coats into even the smallest profiles and crevices of a MEMS device for complete protection

Other benefits:

  • Chemical inertness.
  • Minimal added mass and low outgassing
  • Low dielectric constant
  • Virtually impervious to moisture ingress
  • High resistance to solvents, acids, other corrosive chemical agents
  • Excellent “particle lockdown”

The unique properties of Parylene allows uniformly coating and protection of almost any form and shape on a variety of substrates including Metals, Glasses, Paper, Resins, Plastics, Ceramics, Ferrites and Silicon.

Parylene coatings are, in some cases, the only method to effectively protect micro-assemblies and enhance lifetime performance

FDA APPROVED

  • Parylene is an FDA approved material based on testing performed under USP Class VI bio-compatibility rating; safe for use within and outside the body
  • Conforms to material ISO-10993 Biological Evaluations for Medical Applications
  • Parylene is transparent, flexible and can be applied as a film in layers as thin as 0.1 mil to provide pinhole-free and conformal coating, even on complex surfaces common in medical applications.
