Wireless power involves the transmission of energy from a transmitter to a receiver via an oscillating magnetic field. Direct Current (DC) supplied by a power source, is converted into high frequency Alternating Current (AC) by specially designed electronics built into the transmitter.
The alternating current energizes a copper wire coil in the transmitter, which generates a magnetic field. Once a second (receiver) coil is placed within proximity of the magnetic field, the field can induce an alternating current in the receiving coil.
Electronics in the receiving device then converts the alternating current back into direct current, which becomes usable power.

The three main technologies that apply to HMI Devices are:
- Inductive coupling through wire coils used in applications like electric tooth brush and razor battery charging, induction stovetops and industrial heaters.
- Resonant inductive coupling through tuned wire coils, lumped element resonators used in applications like charging portable devices (Qi), biomedical implants, electric vehicles, powering busses, trains, MAGLEV, RFID, smartcards.
- Capacitive coupling with metal plate electrodes used for charging portable devices, power routing in large-scale integrated circuits, Smartcards.

Wireless charging is now what I would call a mature industry with multiple suppliers. The basic feature is identical with two basic differences:
- Directly coupled where the iPhone must be in line with coil.
- Indirectly coupled which allows for certain degree of misalignment.
- Efficiencies as I understand are now above 90%.

There are two parallel development paths – directed towards imbedded automotive for potential integration in 2021 MY vehicles and validation of the technology in aftermarket product planned for 2018. - Create design with industrial design rendering.
